Remnants Shawl - Thirteen Colors Done

As soon as I finish up with a skein on the Adventuresome Shawl I attach it to the tail of the previous skein on this shawl and knit it up.  I will confess that in some ways I'm liking this shawl better than the Adventuresome Shawl simply because it is letting the yarn be the star without any other distraction.  I was thinking of using the blue main color from the Adventuresome Shawl as a picot border (depending on how much I have left), but I may just leave it as it is - just a simple garter stitch boomerang shawl.  The stitches were getting a little crowded on the needle I was using, but finishing up the Sunshower Shawl freed up the Smart Stix needles.

The colors so far:
1.  Outer Space
2.  Black Hole
3.  Dark Nebula
4.  Asteroid
5.  Horizons
6.  Blue Moon
7.  Aurora Borealis
8.  Equinox
9.  Orbit
10.  Crater
11.  Ursa Major
12.  Galaxy
13.  Neutron

Adventuresome Shawl - Thirteen Colors Done

My test knit is on hold while I wait for more beads to come in, so I've been working on this and my Remnants shawl.  I'm just over half-way done - 13 of the 25 mini-skeins.  The colors so far:

1.  Outer Space
2.  Black Hole
3.  Dark Nebula
4.  Asteroid
5.  Horizons
6.  Blue Moon
7.  Aurora Borealis
8.  Equinox
9.  Orbit
10.  Crater
11.  Ursa Major
12.  Galaxy
13.  Neutron

I will confess that I'm not entirely clear on the relationship between the color names and the colors, and I'm not as interested in that relationship because it isn't really that strong given that none of the skeins have labels, the only label was on the little paper bag they came in, and the color key is on a half-sheet of paper.  Still, I like the colors - not quite my usual palette - and I like the blue for the main color.  I did take care to lay them out in order and to keep them laid out in order, but that also means that I can't really put this project in too much of a time out.

Sunshower Shawl - Finished!

I finished this up this past Saturday.  It ends with an I-cord bind off and edging, which requires you to pick up stitches all the way around the shawl.  I had been using the Smart-Stix needles that came with the club, but there was no way that they were going to hold all of those stitches so I pulled out a 47 inch size 5 from my needle stash.  On the edges I picked up the two outer legs of the stitch between the purl bumps and alternating between knitting a stitch in it and knitting front back in it as the directions called for 3 stitches per every 4 rows and each garter stitch ridge represented two rows.  I almost didn't do the I-cord edging and bind off, but that last skein was purple (Iris), which is my favorite color.  I did work a couple of extra rows of I-cord where I had to turn the corner from the cast off bottom to the picked up sides just to give myself a little more room to make it around that point.
It is a nice crescent shape.  I blocked it fairly aggressively to bring out the garter stitch ridges as well as the lace.  I may make more of this pattern, it was fun and is a good way to use up leftover yarn or mini-skeins.

Remnants Shawl - Six Colors Done

As I finish up each section on the Adventuresome shawl I attach the remnant to this shawl and work it up as well.  The fun of this one is that it lets the yarn and the colors be the star.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do for finishing.  I thought about using the remnants from last year's advent shawl to work an edging, but I may work another boomerang shawl with it, just to see the color play again.  I have some time to decide.

Adventuresome Shawl - Six Colors Done

I have finished up the first six colors. Each section does not take long, on the order of an hour, so it wouldn't take me long if I focused solely on this project, but I have many projects on the needles.  Right now I'm focusing on three, this one, the remnants shawl made from the leftovers of this one, and a test knit for The Unique Sheep.  The test knit is for the next mystery knit along.  That one is a square shawl worked from the center out, but I turned mine into a poncho.  I'm enjoying it.  The lace is easy.  This one also has an easy lace pattern as well, although I'm not crazy about slip-slip-purls.

Colors so far:
1.  Outer Space
2.  Black Hole
3.  Dark Nebula
4.  Asteroid
5.  Horizons
6.  Blue Moon
