Mermaid - Finished!

I finished this last Thursday and it just came off the blocking mats this morning.  It is sort of a t-shirt dress and comes down to just past my knees.  I think the ease is pretty good.  I may try styling it with a belt just because of the weight of all of that knitting hanging off my shoulders.  Overall, though, I am pretty happy with the result and am also happy that I used an entire Advent set up.  Well, less 3.4 grams of skein 24, which is the skein that I used for the I-cord edgings.

Mermaid - Nineteen Skeins Done

I am almost done.  I’ve actually started skein 20 and have skein 21 caked up.  There are just 2 skeins left to cake.  It looks like the length is going to be good for wearing as a tunic with my leggings.  I did screw up my increases, and ended up increasing more than I intended, but I think I’m going to appreciate the extra ease more than the extra length.  I am interested in how it will block out and wear.  I do love the colors.

Mermaid - Twelve Skeins Done

This is good mindless knitting, for reading, or watching TV.  I did set this aside while I concentrated on my Celestial Socks, but pulled it out again this weekend when I decided on what I was going to do to finish the neck and armholes.  I-Cord.  The typical finish would be ribbing, but I really didn’t want to do that.  I thought about some sort of fancy knit on edging, but in the end decided to just keep it simple.  The color is Skein 24.  I am going to continue knitting until I have used up the rest of the Advent set, and I will do another I-cord bind off at the end.  If I do another one of these I will start with an I-cord cast on and work short rows to get all of the shaping, which I think will give a nicer neck line.  I have started adding some increases to give a little more ease as I go over my hips.  The top portion has about 3-4 inches of ease, so I will probably try to keep that ease amount going.

Mermaid - Nine Skeins Done

I’ve finished the raglan shaping, and am now just working round and round on the body.  Easy knitting, good for reading.  Jezebel approves.  I had thought to use all of the mini skeins on this top, but now I’m not so sure I will do that.  I will knit until I get to a good length for a top and then do the ribbing, and then figure out what to do with any mini skeins left over - some sort of accessory probably.

Mermaid - Cast On!

For the past several years, I have been bitten by the Advent Calendar bug - to an extent that I could probably do a year of Advent Calendars - so I decided to start working though some of my old ones.  This is a set from The Unique Sheep, and is on a sport weight yarn - not the usual fingering weight that I typically get.  The colorway is called Mermaid.  I want to use it all as I have an aversion to having leftovers so last week I began searching for patterns.  I found several possibilities, both crochet and knit, but in the end I went with a simple raglan top from an iPad app called KnitsThatFit.  It is my first time using the app.  I had previously used an app on my laptop called SweaterWizard.  There is absolutely no patterning, just straight stockinette, except for some ribbing.
It is hard to see much at this point as it is scrunched up on my 24” needles.
