Adventuresome Shawl - Blocking!

I blocked the shawl this morning.  Blocking these bias knit shawls is always a bit of a challenge.  I started with the top edge, stretching it out and pinning it along one of the grid lines of my blocking mats.  I then spread out the body trying to get things to line up as best I could and stretching things out some.  Next I pinned the right edge.  Then I went back and pinned the bottom edge, and lastly I pinned the right edge.  What I noticed is that the top edge is shorter than the bottom edge.  I'm guessing it is because the kfb increase does not have as much give as a yarn over increase would.  I may do some swatches to confirm this.  As my husband pointed out, you will never see it when you're wearing it.  Still, it always bugs me when I can't get things lined up.

Adventuresome Shawl - Thirteen Colors Done

My test knit is on hold while I wait for more beads to come in, so I've been working on this and my Remnants shawl.  I'm just over half-way done - 13 of the 25 mini-skeins.  The colors so far:

I will confess that I'm not entirely clear on the relationship between the color names and the colors, and I'm not as interested in that relationship because it isn't really that strong given that none of the skeins have labels, the only label was on the little paper bag they came in, and the color key is on a half-sheet of paper.  Still, I like the colors - not quite my usual palette - and I like the blue for the main color.  I did take care to lay them out in order and to keep them laid out in order, but that also means that I can't really put this project in too much of a time out.

Adventuresome Shawl - Six Colors Done

I have finished up the first six colors. Each section does not take long, on the order of an hour, so it wouldn't take me long if I focused solely on this project, but I have many projects on the needles.  Right now I'm focusing on three, this one, the remnants shawl made from the leftovers of this one, and a test knit for The Unique Sheep.  The test knit is for the next mystery knit along.  That one is a square shawl worked from the center out, but I turned mine into a poncho.  I'm enjoying it.  The lace is easy.  This one also has an easy lace pattern as well, although I'm not crazy about slip-slip-purls.

Adventuresome Wrap - Cast On

Last year I purchased a Sunshine Yarns Advent kit for my Ambah O'Brien Advent project.  I purchased another one this year.  The colorway is Night Sky.  Once again I opened all of them this past weekend.  Unlike last year, the yarns came in little paper bags with the number on the bag and no identification on the skein itself, which meant that after I unwrapped them I had to be careful to keep them in the proper order.  I decided the best way to do that was to knit them up quickly, so yesterday I cast on.  I cast on 202 stitches to make the shawl wider and to use up more yarn.  It's a good thing I did, too, as I'm still only using up about 2/3 of each of the mini skeins.

When Ambah announced her 2019 patterns, Sunshine Yarns suggested some neutral skein colors for the main color on the Adventuresome Wrap.  I picked up a skein of gray.  But then I saw that someone on Ravelry was using red as their main color and that got me thinking.  So I looked at my colors and decided that a bold blue might be a good color to go with my set.  I had what I thought would be the perfect color lurking in my stash, I just had to find it.  It was catalogued on Ravelry, but the location information was incorrect.  I finally found it hiding in a project bag for one of my many WIPs.  The gray will go to good use, however, the main color in the Jimmy Beans Craftvent calendar this year is a gray fuzzy alpaca, and I just don't do fuzzy yarns, plus I have to be a little careful with alpaca as it can make my hands itch.
